Edward Everett “Ed” Purdy, 91, of North 14th Street, Niles, died at 12:22 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Niles, with the Rev. Edward H. Slate, of the church, officiating.

Burial was in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.

He was born on April 12, 1918, in Vandalia, to Elisha Purdy and Laura Tryon. He was a lifetime area resident.

He retired in 1983, after over 25 years of service to Bendix/Allied Signal in South Bend, Ind.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles.

Purdy was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Air Force. He was also a member of Saint Joseph Valley Lodge No. 4, F.&A.M. in Niles, Vandalia Lodge No. 290, F.&.A.M., having had obtained the rank of 32 degree.

He was past president of Niles Athletic Boosters and the YMCA Men’s Club and was a merit badge counselor for Boy Scouts Troop No. 175 in Niles. He was an avid golfer.
On Oct. 10, 1942, in Constantine, he married Carol D. (Yoder) Purdy, who died on May 13, 1995. Later, on Sept. 20, 1997, in Niles, he married Mary A. (McCain) Friend Purdy, who survives.

Additional surviving family includes, a daughter, Jerrilynne Purdy of Alexandria, Va.; son, Dennis E. (Nancy) Purdy of Perrysburg, Ohio; granddaughters, Elizabeth A. Jackson of Toledo, Ohio and Emily A. Purdy of Lansing; a grandson, Matthew D. Purdy and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Niles.

Adam Michael Stuglik, one day old, of Elkhart, Ind., died at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind. at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009.

Funeral services were at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart, Ind.

Memorials may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 5, in South Bend, Ind., to Derik Maxwell Adam Stuglik of Edwardsburg and Sadie Elizabeth Simmons of Elkhart, Ind.
