Chiefs fall at Plainwell

The Dowagiac cross country teams were swept by host Plainwell on Tuesday in a Wolverine Conference dual meet.

The Trojans defeated the Chieftains 17-46, while the Plainwell girls’ team posted a 15-50 victory.

Morgan Timiney was the top finisher for Plainwell as he bested the field with a time of 17:49.

Zach Verhage of Plainwell as second with an 18:43.

Dowagiac’s Chris Gantt placed fourth overall to lead the Chieftains with a time of 18:43.
Jason Turner finished 11th (24:17), Matt Ernzen 14th (25:04), Ryan Daly 15th (25:16), Brandon Wilson 16th (25:23) and Tyler Cross 17th (28:26).

The Lady Trojans’ Cara Minto was the top finisher with a clocking of 24:24.

Taylor Mann was second for Plainwell with a time of 25:00.

Dowagiac was led by Leana Allen’s 11th place finish and a time of 29:06.

Kesley Cleveland was 15th (29:59), Samantha Mathews 16th (30:00), Amanda Hassle 18th (32:01), Kristina Bunn 19th (33:12), Caitlin Shurte 20th (33:16), Rebecca Luth 21st (33:24), Corinne Kasper 22nd (34:37), Kayla Yakim 23rd (35:50), Savanna Lemon 24th (35:58), Sarah Hassle 25th (36:59), Michala Froehlich 26th (42:46), Allison Hassle 27th (42:50) and Rebecca Hassle 28th (42:52).

“Plainwell has a very tough, hilly course,” Dowagiac coach Ken Jordan said. “Morgan Timiney is going to be very tough to beat in the conference.”
