Niles netters fall to ‘Cats

The Niles varsity tennis team dropped a 6-2 Big 16 Conference West Division match to visiting Mattawan on Monday afternoon.

The Vikings earned one victory in both singles and doubles.

Jared Langmeyer picked up Niles’ lone win in singles competition with a 7-6 and 6-3 win over Michael Brittan.

In doubles, the Vikings got their win from its No. 3 team of Mitch Peterek and Chad Majerek.

Peterek and Majerek defeated Tyler George and Matt Norton in a three-set thriller, 6-7, 6-4 and 7-6.

Niles and Mattawan tied at 3-3 in junior varsity competition.

PLAINWEL L – Visiting Dowagiac continued its stretch of playing tough opponents on Monday by taking on Plainwell.

The Trojans blanked the Chieftains 8-0 in a Wolverine Conference match.

The most competitive match of the afternoon came at No. 2 singles where Plainwell’s Chris Waechter defeated Bo Parsons 7-5 and 6-2.

Dowagiac hosts Gull Lake on Wednesday.
