Candles and colors mark fateful day

Two area services will be held tonight to honor those whose lives were lost and remember the events that changed America on September 11, 2001.

In Niles, members of Pax Christi Southwest Michigan invite the public to join them for an ecumenical candlelight vigil on the riverfront in Niles tonight at 8:15 p.m.

The group will meet at the boat dock near the children’s play area. A brief period of prayer and song in remembrance of the victims and other victims of 9/11 violence as well as for the conversion of those who believe in terrorism and war.

In Buchanan, a Patriot Day Commemoration will be held at Buchanan Commons at 7 p.m.

The American Legion Post  No. 51 Color Guard will present a posting of the colors. Pastor David Mitchell will introduce Buchanan’s Mayor Barb Clark, who will emcee the proceedings which will include, the National Anthem and God Bless America performed by the Buchanan High School band.

An invocation will be said by the Rev. Sean Kidd, with brief remarks by area public safety agencies and leaders, speaker Harvey Burnett an honor guard salute and benediction.
