Chiefs nips Eddies in 2 overtimes

WHITE PIGEON – Alex Krajniak scored six touchdowns, including a 3-yard run in the second overtime as host White Pigeon edged Edwardsburg 47-41 on Friday night.

Krajniak scored on runs of 2, 37, 50, 3, 1 and 3-yards to lift the Chiefs to their 2-0 win of the season.

The Eddies (0-2) led 13-7 after the first quarter and 21-14 at the intermission, but could not hold on in the second half.

White Pigeon caught Edwardsburg in the third quarter and both teams scored 14 points in the final 12 minutes to head to the first overtime knotted at 35-35.

The Eddies scored first in the opening overtime on a 10-yard run by Austin Stennett.
The point-after-touchdown attempt failed and Edwardsburg led by just six points.
White Pigeon scored on its possession as Krajniak plunged in from a yard out. Like the Eddies, the Chiefs were unable to complete the extra point and the two teams headed to another overtime.

Krajniak was called upon again and he delivered, scoring from 3-yards out.

The Chiefs failed on the extra point, leaving the Eddies with a shot at pulling out the win.
Edwardsburg failed to score on its possession sending the squad to its second straight heartbreaking defeat.

There was plenty of offense and very little defense Friday night as the two teams combined for 704 yards on the ground and 881 yards in total offense.

The Eddies took a 13-7 lead in the opening quarter as Frank Majors scored on a 15-yard run and threw touchdown passes of 25- and 15-yards to Adam Kendall and Kyle Dale respectively.

Edwardsburg made its first PAT, but did not connect on a 2-point conversion following the second touchdown.

White Pigeon cut the lead to six points when Mike Niblock scored on a 59-yard run.
The Eddies increased their lead to 21-7 when Majors scored again from 15-yards out. Cole Golden scored on the 2-point conversion run.

The Chiefs moved to within a touchdown before halftime as Krajniak found the end zone for the first time on the night, scoring from 2-yards out. The kick was good and the two teams headed into the locker room with the score standing at 21-14.

White Pigeon scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter as Krajniak raced in from 37-yards away.

Each team netted a touchdown in the final 12 minutes of regulation.

Devin Bywaters scored both times for the Eddies on runs of 5- and 12-yards. Golden ran in the conversion following the first touchdown, but the PAT failed.

White Pigeon’s two scores came on runs of 50- and 3-yards by Krajniak. Niblock scored the two point conversion after the second touchdown to send the game to overtime.

Majors led the Eddies with 87 yards rushing on nine carries. He was also 3-for-3 throwing the football for an additional 49 yards.

Bywaters had 63 yards on 10 totes.

Edwardsburg finished with 394 yards on the ground and 443 yards in total offense.

Steven Cable had 10 tackles to pace the defense, which gave up 310 yards rushing and 125 yards passing. Sawyer Reynolds had nine stops.
