Calhoun, Rodts win at the Shamrock Invitational

BERRIEN SPRINGS – The Niles boys’ and girls’ cross country teams finished second and third respectively at the Shamrock Invitational on Wednesday.

Led by overall champions Mark Calhoun and Madie Rodts, Niles finished behind host Berrien Springs in the girls’ race and behind Bridgman in the boys’ event.

Calhoun ran a time of 17:22 to take the title.

Sam VandenHeede also placed in the top 10 as he was fifth in 18:27. Anthony Horvath placed seventh with a time of 18:48.

Barry Weddle placed 25th (20:50) and Kyle Ballge 51st (24:12).

Rodts posted a time of 20:52 to win her second straight invitational. Rodts won Saturday’s Dowagiac Rotary Invitational as well.

Also placing in the top 10 were Anne Tyler (7th) and Alex Haimbaugh (8th) with times of 23:02 and 23:29 respectively.

Maureen Craig placed 15th (24:14), Bridgett Carpenter 21st (24:50), Shannon McMeel 24th (25:14) and Ava McKeel 31st (25:59).
