MARSHALL – A commanding victory last week led the Niles freshman football team to their second win of the season, as they defeated Marshall 42-8 on the road Thursday night. The young Vikings outscored their opponent 14-0 at the half.
Defensive coordinator Jim Brawley felt that Rodney Applewhite gave the team a great spark on the defensive side of the ball. Other threats on defense were Marcus Hatcher recovered a fumble, changing the game, and Fritz Findeisen led the team in quarterback sacks.
On offense, coordinator Jim Meyers felt that the running backs ran well and made space for a six yard touchdown run by quarterback Cole Clemens and a 45-yard run for six points by Findeisen.
Anthoney Bice had three touchdowns including a 40-yard and six-yard runs and a score after a fumble recovery.
“It was a big win for the team and they have made improvements since the Coldwater game,” said coach Steve Grayson.
The team is now 2-0 and will face the St. Joe Bears at home next Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
