Niles freshmen blank Coldwater 28-0

COLDWATER – The Niles freshmen football team traveled to Coldwater to open the season Thursday night.

The Vikings jumped to an early lead of 8-0 and led 14-0 at halftime. The Vikings went on to win 28-0.

Scoring for Niles were Anthoney Bice on a 30-yard run, Chris Mangus on a 2-yard run, Cole Clemens on a 2-yard run, and Aaron Pierce, who caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Clemens.

Singled out for their defensive efforts were Fritz Findeisen, who recovered a fumble; Blaine Myers, who had an interception; and Derek Scott, who played outstanding on the defensive line.

Coach Steve Grayson noted that special teams played outstanding and was lead by Bice, who had two great punt returns.

“It was a total team effort,” Grayson said. “The kids played well.”

Niles will travel to Marshall next week with kickoff slated for 4:30.
