The Dowagiac junior varsity football team won its season opener against South Haven Thursday night 48-0.
The Chieftains’ defense was the story of the game, scoring eight points on a safety and a scoop and score by Dontrell Tucker as time expired.
Dontell Highsmith had three touchdowns on the night, while D.J. Hunt scored a pair of touchdowns for the Chieftains. Logan Pellow also had a touchdown.
“The offensive line played great, allowing all of our running backs to run the ball well,” Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said.
Dowagiac will host Three Rivers next Wednesday night.
