Frederick "Fred" Bunkelman Jr.

, 78, of Lowell Wood West, Mishawaka, Ind. passed away at 6:10 p.m., in his home on Wednesday, July 22, 2009.

A memorial service will be held at the Unity Church of Peace, 905 East Colfax Avenue, South Bend, Ind. on Aug. 15 at 4 p.m., where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.

He was born in Seymour, Wis. on March 18, 1931.

On June 21, 1969, he married Charlotte L. Eyer in Edwardsburg. Fred is survived by his wife of 40 years, Charlotte, along with his blended family, daughters, Connie (Randy) Hoffman, Mindy Bunkelman,  and Cindy Bunkelman; sons,  Scott (Dawn) Bunkelman, Jeffery Brooks, and Gregory (Leslie) Brooks; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

He was a member of the Elks No. 235, South Bend, Ind. and the Unity Church of Peace, South Bend. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.
Bunkelman was a technical support manager for Whitehall Laboratories until their closing, at which time he went back to school and learned the ins and outs of wallpapering. He continued wallpapering until his passing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Unity Church of Peace, South Bend, Ind. or to the St. Joseph County Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
