Howard Bailey, 65, of Berwyn, Ill., formerly of Dowagiac, passed away on Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago.

Howard’s life began on Feb. 14, 1944, in Montgomery, Ala., from the union of William J. and Maggie (Jackson) Bailey.

He had been employed in various jobs involving the railroads.

Howard was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons raised in brotherhood in Detroit.
He was united in marriage to the former Lizzie Banks, who survives, in Alabama, and he is survived by: sons, Howard Marcel Bailey of Detroit and Howard K. Bailey Jr. of Birmingham; and one daughter, Bernadine Williams of Detroit; a sister, Geraldine Flewellen of Dowagiac; and a younger brother, Willie Bailey of Detroit.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Travis Williams.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, where his home-going service begins at 2 p.m. led by Pastor Tyrone Pace of Second Baptist Church.
