Aubrey’s life began July 21, 1924, in Silver Creek Township near Dowagiac, the son of Aubra and Leona (May) Hawks.

He was a 1942 graduate of Dowagiac Central High School.

Aubrey, 85, of Dowagiac, served his country in the U.S. Army 70th Fighter Wing and was awarded six bronze stars for his service.

He was united in marriage to Marie Louise H. Caroli in Liege, Belgium, on April 26, 1945.

Aubrey worked for a few years as a home builder around Sister Lakes and spent most of his career as a timber buyer for the David R. Webb Veneer Co.

Aubrey was a private pilot who belonged to the Pals and Gals of Dowagiac Airport (PAGODA) flying club.

He was a member of Marcellus VFW who loved to hunt and fish.

His greatest joy was his family, which includes: his wife of 64 years, Marie Louise Hawks of Dowagiac; his sons, James (Kande) Hawks of Berrien Springs, Michael (Margaret) Hawks of Three Rivers and Timothy Hawks of Belleville, Ill.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Darryl Budd of Sister Lakes.

Aubrey passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at the Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis.

He is preceded in death by: a sister, Betty Budd; step-sisters, Edna and Viola; and a brother, Robert Hawks.

His family will gather with friends on Friday at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs where Pastor Cindy Parsons of Berrien Springs United Methodist Church will lead a graveside service.
