KALAMAZOO – Tennis pros Michael Chang and Paul Goldstein will face off during an exhibition match as part of this year’s USTA Boys’ 18 and 16 Nationals Tournament.
The RX Optical, Greenleaf Trust & Greenleaf Hospitality Exhibition Match, featuring Chang and Goldstein, will take place on Friday, Aug. 7 at 7:30 pm at the Stowe Tennis Stadium on the campus of Kalamazoo College.

The two pros will play one set against each other and will also play doubles against the top junior team.

“Kalamazoo is lucky to have Michael Chang and Paul Goldstein as headliners for this exhibition,” said Mark J. Riley, Kalamazoo College Men’s Tennis Coach and USTA Boys’ Nationals Tournament Director. “These two great former junior champions started their illustrious careers here.  We could not be more pleased that they have decided to come back for this event.”

Chang was not only the 1989 French Open Singles Champion, he was also the Boys’ 18s National Singles Champion in 1987.

He has earned 34 career singles titles and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame last year.

Goldstein is often referred to as the “Crash Davis of tennis”  – after the baseball catcher in the film Bull Durham – having set the all-time record for career USTA Pro Circuit titles: 26.

He’s known locally for being the first player in 45 years to become a repeat singles champion at the Boys’ Nationals. In all, he captured 3 straight National Junior titles (16s in 1992 and 18s in both 1993 and 1994).

Tickets for the Chang/Goldstein exhibition are $15 for adults and $10 for youngsters and are available by downloading an order form on the USTA Boys’ National Tournament website at www.usta-boys.com or by calling the Nationals office at (269) 337-7343.
