Vawn Buheker, 93, formerly of Champlain Drive, Niles, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at palm Gardens of Vero beach, Fla., following a brief illness.
The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be read at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, by the Rev. William T. Melody of Notre Dame, Ind.
Committal rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the funeral home., with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
She was born on June 13, 1916, in Niles to John Francis and carrie (Chiverton) Unley. She graduated from Niles High School in 1934 and has lived in Niles until 2005, when she moved to Vero Beach, where her nieces, Judy and Susan, could help provide her care.
She was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church, Niles. She was a volunteer with the Pawating Auxiliary at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles, serving 43 years in the former coffee shop.
As a younger lady, she bowled on area leagues.
She enjoyed traveling, including two cruises and interior decorating, being especially proud of the appearance of her home.
On Feb. 15, 1941, in Niles, she married Frank J. Buheker, who died on March 1, 1978.
She was also preceded in death by her sister,, Mary C. DePoy, who died on Jan. 30, 1994.
She is survived by her nieces, Judy Atwood of Kalamazoo and Susan Conner of Burlington, Ky. and a nephew, Dean DePoy, of Winter Haven, Fla.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Mary Catholic Church, or to Hospice At Home.
