Michael Rex Jeffrey, 53, of Worrell Road, Niles, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at 6:30 a.m. from injuries of a tree falling on him while riding his motorcycle on Ironwood in Niles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Daniel D. Miller of First Missionary Church, Niles, officiating and will conclude with Military Honors by an honor guard of the United States Navy.
Committal will be in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the funeral home.
He was born on Feb. 23, 1956, in South Bend, Ind. to Max Rex and Emmalou (Woods) Jeffrey, and has lived in this area all of his life.
He graduated from Brandywine High School and earned an associate degree from Southwestern Michigan College.
He retired from the United States Navy, having served 22 years.
He was currently employed at Honeywell in South Bend, Ind. and owned and operated M&C Entertainment D.J. and Karaoke service.
He was a member of the Buchanan Moose Lodge No. 449, American Legion Post No. 26 and Amvets Post No. 1978.
He enjoyed playing racketball, golf,, softball and shuffleboard and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On Nov. 24, 2008, in Cassopolis, he married the former Diana S. King, who survives.
Additional surviving family includes his children, Stephanie Vines of Grand Rapids, Nicole Jasinki, Amber Carpenter of Goshen, P.J. (Kevin) Connors of Niles, Michael Rex (Jana) Jeffrey II of The Colony, Texas, Michelle Jeffrey of The Colony and Erin (Daniel) Gordon of Niles; six grandchildren; his mother, Emmalou Jeffrey of Niles; a sister,, Lynette Kababik of White Lake and a half-sister, Joann Florey of Edwardsburg.
He was preceded in death by his father, Max Rex Jeffrey in 2006 and his brother, Mitchell Jeffrey in 1977.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Buchanan Moose Lodge.
