BENTON HARBOR – The 11th Annual “Fishing is Fun for Kids” Day will take place on Aug. 1 from noon to 4 p.m. at Oronoko Lakes in Berrien Springs.  Oronoko Lakes is located at the intersection of Snow and Burgoyne Rd.

The fishing day is free. It is open to all children, especially children 12 years and under.

“Wild Bill” from Y-Country 97.5 (WYTZ) and sponsors will be demonstrating fishing techniques and a free lunch will be provided to all participants.

Conservation officers will be in attendance, as well as the Safety Patrol Boat. Children will be able to see the boat and learn safety and fishing tips. There will be contests throughout the day and door prizes.

Children without rods and reels can request the use of one when registering at Roger’s Foodland.

Bait will be donated by Pyles Porthole as well. No fishing license is required for this event.

The late Jerry Brown’s family, owner of Oronoko Lakes, opens the two private lakes up to children for this event each year.

Pre-registration is required and can be completed at Roger’s Foodland, located at the corners of Glenlord and Hollywood Roads in St. Joseph.
