Phyllis Scafaria, 81, of S.W. Kingsway Circle, Lake Suzy, Fla., formerly of Niles, died in her home on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, following an extended illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Niles with the Rev. David Otto, pastor, officiating.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 20, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Committal rites will be at noon Wednesday at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.

She was born on Aug. 5, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ralph Rhoades Bartlett and Helen Marie (Zander) Bartlett.

She moved from Niles to Lake Suzy, Fla. 11 years ago.

She retired in 1990, after 21 years of service to Clark Equipment Company.

She loved her family dearly, also cooking, entertaining and reading.
On Oct. 13, 1952, she married Frank Anthony Scafaria, Sr., who survives.

Additional surviving family include their children, Frank Anthony (Sally) Scafaria, Jr. of Niles, Mark (Nancy) Scafaria of Kalamazoo and Stephan (Debbie) Scafaria of Kalamazoo; daughters, Nancy (Trevor) Connelly of Flower Mound, Texas, Diane Orr of Kalamazoo and Carla Scafaria of Niles; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a brother, Ralph Bartlett of California.

Memorial donations may be made to the Niles District Library for large print books, or the Leukemia Society or Hospice.
