Marie E. (Tolmen) Swartz, 81, of South bend, Ind. passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009, in her residence.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Edwardsburg.

Visitation was on Sunday, June 21, in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, Ind. where a Rosary was prayed at 7:30 p.m.

Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.

Marie was born on Sept. 3, 1927 in New Carlisle, Ind. to William and Gladys (Carr) Tolmen.

On Oct. 2, 1948, shemarried Leonard Swartz and he passed away in 1995. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Rosetta Loomis, Ellen Sinks, Modelle Karoly, Louise Mackey, and Helen Blackston; and brothers, William Tolmen, and Russell Tolmen.

Marie is survived by her children, Kevin (Toni) Swartz of South Bend, Ind.; daughters, Marlene (Stephen) Botka of North Liberty, Ind. and Susan (Walter) Davis of South Bend, Ind.; grandchildren, Shawn Swartz, Jeremy Davis, Jordan Davis, Walter (Martha) Davis, Jr., David Rossi, Chad (Nichole) Ladyga, Stephen Botka III, Jenell (Justin) Bronke, and Christopher Swartz; great-grandchildren, Tayah, Rashad, Amaria, Shakyra, Walter III, Maelyn, and Meg Lynn; sisters, Mary Mell of Jackson, and Jeanette Koehler of South Bend, Ind.; brothers, Richard (Barbara) Tolmen of Kerrville, Texas, Donald (Wanda) Tolmen of New Carlisle, Ind., Harry (Patricia) Tolmen of New Carlisle, Ind., Terry Tolmen of Kokomo, Ind.; and by several nieces and nephews.

Marie worked as a waitress for the South Shore Railroad and was active at the PNA 83 and was a life time member of Army Navy Auxiliary No. 422, Girard, Ohio.

She was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Edwardsburg, where she was involved with the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Altar and Rosary Coffee Clutch with church friends.

Marie’s family was very dear to her and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a sports enthusiast and loved the Cubs.
